Alert: You may wish to break into gender specific groups if using for small group time.
1. What insight, principle or observation from this week’s message did you find to be most helpful, eye opening or troubling? Please explain.
2. What is something you get really serious about, in a positive or negative way? What actions revealed just how serious you were?
3. Read Matthew 5:27-28. How does Jesus redefine what the law actually meant? How does Jesus’ new definition of adultery challenge you specifically?
4. Read Matthew 5:29-30. Jesus gets real serious about sin, specifically here is sexual sin. Do you think we can take Jesus seriously? What do you think Jesus actually means by these extreme statements?
5. How has sexual sin and lust been a temptation and struggle for you? How is it currently a struggle? If you have never told anyone, start be telling your group, or a few members in your group after the large group time.
6. Jesus says something will die. Our hand or eye, or our whole body in hell. What is causing you to sin sexually? What needs to die? When it comes to sin (sexual sin), what would it look like for you to get serious and cut something from your life?
7. Often our struggle with lust is the result of things we look at or places we go. What has been the source of your greatest struggle? Why can there not be a universal standard as to what is allowed when it comes to what we look at and where we go? Why must this be personal to each of us?
8. For many years we thought lust and sexual sin was simply a male struggle, does it surprise you that more and more females are struggling with this as well? What could we/you do to open up more conversations with females about this?
9. For parents: Have you thought about sexual sin and lust in regard to your parenting. How could you as a parent be ahead of the game when it comes to this area with your kids?
