Josh was born in Red Deer and grew up on a farm just 20 minutes southwest of the city. There he grew up with one younger brother and went to a local rural school. After getting connected and having the chance to serve at the youth group at his family's church in Red Deer he felt the call to youth ministry. He promptly went into and completed the Youth Ministry Degree Program at Prairie College here in Three Hills, graduating in 2019.
After that Josh returned home and worked two part time positions. Half of the week he served as specialty barista for Central Alberta Youth Unlimited in Sylvan Lake out of Timber Coffee Co. (this is where he picked up his passion for speciality coffee. Don't get him started unless you have the time), working with at risk teens and single parent families specifically within the broader community. The other half of the week he worked in the K-6 Ministry Department at CrossRoads Church in Red Deer with a main focus on developing and caring for their Kids Min Serve Team, while also doing support roles and serving with the Kids Ministry each Sunday. From here Josh moved back to Three Hills and began his full time career in Youth Ministry here at Mt Olive in August of 2023.
When Josh isn't planning games, sermon prepping, or meeting with youth/leaders/or families he loves to enjoy a great cup of coffee (Monogram is a good local offering), to go indoor rock climbing at Trailhead, reading one of his many books on the shelf, or just being present with friends in conversation or board games.
Josh has a heart to see our teens be transformed by the Gospel of the Kingdom and become vibrant apprentices of Jesus. He seeks to help them, and others, find hope, purpose, and identity in Jesus in a world that seeks to oppose those things.
Mount Olive is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada Prairie District.
